Sintra pvc foam board

Post by 88811 »

Can anyone recommend where I could order similar pvc foam board as Sintra pvc foam board which is sold only in US?
I have never build anything from raw materials so I'm a bit confused what is the right kind of pvc foam board to build an armor plates.

http://www.sintrapvc.com/

Closest one I could find was sold in Etola, but I'm not sure if it's same stuff: http://tuotteet.etra.fi/en/g2228480/foamed-pvc-sheets

Sintra, Foamed pvc or foamalux are all the same name for the same product.

I usually get my from the local sign-maker but its also aviable in bauhaus if you have it in Helsinki - its aviable in Bauhaus in Sweden atleast.

About the product youre linking im not sure what it is, but it sure seems similar to Sintra..

Thanks! I'll go ask from my closest Bauhaus for it. It seems to have different name in Finland so it's a bit hard.

Btw you are right guy to answer because I'm planning to build a Mando costume!

Etra could be a good idea to check as well, they have nice stuff there.

Yeah I bought mine from Etra last year. Now I have materials for at least 6 mando armors even after my first one is already done.

Sintra is just a brand name. Material itself is foam PVC sheet. So it doesn't really matter which brand you use. Etra is the one available here in Finland and Sintra is more common in USA.

Thickness of the pvc sheet is affecting how easy it is to work with. More thick it is, more heat you need to add to it. So far my experience has been that 6 mm is good and strong, but it is very easy to get it burned when working on more detailed shapes. 3 mm is very easy to work with and you can even cut it with a knife to make very detailed parts. For shins and gauntlets I'd would recommend using something to make it a bit stronger like eva foam on the inside. That also makes those parts more comfy.

Actually, I meant Etra, as in Etola Teollinen Rakentaminen (Sorry, in Finnish)

Etola sells plastic things from cups to rubber strips. Etra is their industrial building shop, that sells stuff for buildings and such.

Etra does have some nice plastics in and should have something like sintra, just do not remember the name for it.
