Hi all,

I need help from all you armor wearing troopers out there. I had a little mishap with my SWTOR armor last night. I had it laying on my workbench drying after a quick touch-up paint-job. I got a package as I was leaving so I just threw it in the door and I heard the crash. So now my Chest armor has a nice big crack in it :(

So now my question is, is it possible to fix it or is it just a write-off ??

Please help me as I got serious Trooper blues. :(

Is it abs? Then you can use abs cement. Any pictures of the cracks?

Yeah I think it's ABS, it's some kind of plastic anyway. I'm at work right now, but I'll take a pic or two when I'm home again. But it's a nice clean break, no missing pieces. Where can I buy this ABS cement ?

I know a place in Oslo that sells it, its a modeltrain store, so guess its that kind of store you should look into

You shouldn't have to buy ABS cement. You make it out of the same plastic from the armor plate itself, unpainted scraps, with acetone. However if it's not ABS, the acetone thing won't work. You add something else to reinforce in the back, a tab of any plastic glued with the flexible E6000 so it doesn't fall off.

I don't think there's any crack you can't fix, the question is how well you can sand it!

Thanks for the great advise... I'm quite a horder so I still have all the trimmings from last year when I made the armor, so I should have plenty :)

If you dont have Acetone you can choose whats fits you. With Acetone, you need a mask and a ventilated area. And a cup to put the acetone in that is not plastic.
Reinforceing it on the backside is a good idee

ABS cement = the type of glue used for plastic models. Other names: "Poly cement", "Plastic glue". Humbrol's in a yellow bottle with a long metal tip is the easiest to use. You do not want to spill this or "ABS sludge" on anything as it will dissolve plastic.
I think you could use superglue or epoxy just as well, as long as you have plastic strips on the back to support it.

Another method for reinforcing it on the back is to use epoxy and a piece of fibreglass weave. Polyester resin does not work for reinforcing ABS, because it will let go when the plastic flexes.

If you are unlucky the plastic will melt
