Question about originalstormtrooper

Post by Daniel_Meicker »

I bought the battlespec armour from originalstormtrooper a while back but after looking into the 501st i have begun seeing a lot of negative things about both the armour and the owner. I was wondering if this armour is actually approveable. Back when i bought it i had heard a lot of positive things and even as it's expensive as hell i was pretty happy to get it but now i'm begining to question the purchase i made as i see all this negativity surrounding the armour. So yea, my question is: Is the armour approveable? and if not, is it possible to make it so?

You can get it approved. But you will need some minor modifications. just follow the CRL and make sure you change whatever is required.

I think it can be made up to specs, one of the guys recently did it in Denmark. Wont comment on Andrew Ainsworth at all..

What do you mean by that? Isn't he the original producer of the Armor and helmets? Wasn't he the one that Lucas went to to make them and create them from the original drawings and some prototype molds?

In 1976, Ainsworth vacuumed formed the Stormtrooper helmets and armour from the moulds/tools provided by Lucasfilm for A New Hope. The moulds/tools were either sent back to Lucasfilm or destroyed.

After a short career in the film/advertising and various small business ventures , Ainsworth went back to his canoe building.

In March 1977, Ainsworth contacted Lucasfilm to see if they would be interested in working with him but they declined.

Elstree Studios where they filed the movie already had a vacuum-forming machine bought by Lucasfilm specifically for Star Wars and they had the moulds sculpted and finished by in-house sculptors; in this case Liz Moore and Brian Muir. Liz made the helmet and Brian made the armour. And they made a couple of suits in-house but the machine broke and couldn't be used for any more costumes so Lucasfilm out-sourced the work to a local vac-forming shop nearby. This is where Ainsworth comes into the picture, as he worked at that company and helped to make the rest of the costumes. But that was by using moulds that had already been made inside the studio be sculpters working for the movie.

In other words, Ainsworth didn't do anything more than handling the vac-forming machine.
