Swedish import taxes/fees

Post by 10199 »

Hi!

Not sure if the right place for this, but here goes:

I'm about to order some armor, and am considering having it delivered to Sweden (instead of Norway where I live) to save on taxes. I know this can be quite a difference when importing from the EU, but this is from the US and I'm not sure what the rules are then.

So, people of Sweden, what can I expect to pay in taxes and other import fees for shipments from the US?

Total value is about USD 1300 if that matters.

Hi,

It depends on a few things but in order to get a figure of what you might have to pay.

Declaration Fee: Roughly 100 SEK
Customs Fee: 0-10 % (depends on how it's declared and processed. Some kinds of products have 0% others have up to about 10%). So assume around $130
Taxes (i.e. VAT): 25% (calculated on the product + customs fee) so roughly $358

So assuming the worst case scenario this might add upp to a total of extra charges of $488 + 100 SEK. With the current rates that means about 4150 SEK extra in total.

I might be off about something but it should be in this neighbourhood.

This should be the way things are dealt with in Norway too but I don't know the fees and taxes there. Maybe some Norwegian members can chime in.

Ok, so it's pretty much exactly the same as it is here (288 NOK fee, 0-10,7% customs, 25% VAT). Bummer.

What if it came from the UK?

From the UK there is no import fee in Sweden.

Ask the seller what value he puts on the slips.

Putting an incorrect value on the slips constitutes customs fraud, not something I would heartily recommend. With that said, I usually budget with a 35% markup when importing stuff, pretty much as everyone else already has said.

Some sellers put the material cost as the value. Since the buyer is not endorsing it, nor demanding it, it's not fraud on their side.

Most sellers I've dealt with (in general, not just 501st stuff), and especially ones in the US, are reluctant to put anything other than the actual price as value, but it's worth a shot - thanks :)

The added cost of buying from the US is suddenly making UK sellers more attractive, but Troopermaster is taking his time getting back to me and I might have to jump on the US offer quickly if I want in on the current production run, so if anyone on here has gotten a recent quote or has any idea how much TM Stormtrooper armor kits are I would love to get a ballpark figure.
