A Darth Maul costume MUST have:
Under tunic
Cut in a karate gi style, and made of black linen, silk, or a blend which gives the texture and appearance of linen or silk. Lengthwise it extends to a few inches above the knee in both the front and back, with the back being rounded at the bottom. The inner tunic is open on the side seams to just below the arm. Its collar is in the rolled style with four quilt lines running around the neck to where the tunic closes in front.
Outer tunic
Worn over the inner tunic and made from the same or a heavier material. The one piece sleeves are eased and tucked at the shoulder seam and bloused to just below the elbow. On the forearm, the sleeve is pleated and quilted in ~1" sections so that it fits tighter to the skin. The sides are seamed to the waist, below which is open. At the back, the outer tunic is cut on a circle and is midthigh length. The front panels reach to below the knees and are cut straight across the bottom. From the waist in front are two additional narrow (5 1/2" wide) panels which fall to just below the knee. These are made from the same black raw silk noile, silk charmeuse, or a fabric with an equivalent appearance as the tabards. The neck / front opening is faced. The original was lined in satin.
Tabards
Made of black raw silk noile, silk charmeuse, or a fabric with an equivalent appearance. It wraps around the neck and is anchored to the outer tunic at the neck. The tabards are ~5 1/2" wide and fall to the midthigh.
Loin cloth
Attaches to the belt or an underbelt. It is made from the same fabric as the tabards and reaches to the knees. It is rounded at the bottom and ~12" wide.
Trousers
The trousers are made from a black fabric similar to that of the inner tunic. They should be baggy to allow for blousing above the knees.
Belt
Black leather or leather-like belt constructed in two pieces. The wider belt is 5" wide in the center front, tapering to 3" at the side/hips. It fastens in the back with velcro hidden under a square leather sleeve. Over this belt are four, 3/4" strips which are anchored with black rivets at the side/hips. A Covertec lightsabre clip is on the right hand side of the belt.
Gloves
Made of black leather or leather-like in a matte finish. They are devoid of any zippers, buckles, ot decorative stitching. The gauntlet should extend to approximately the middle of the forearm.
Boots
The actual models used were Frank Thomas Titan Touring 101's. A similar Frank Thomas model (Voyager or Apollo) or custom boot is acceptable.
Make-up
It is recommended that the head be shaved, but a high quality skull cap is an alternative. The cosmetics selected should be in red and black with a matte finish. Masks are not acceptable. Application methods vary, but the horns should be firmly attached and the make-up must not run with wear. The horns are not identical, but individual and are to be located on the skull as in the film. Colouring on the horns resembles that of decaying bone. The teeth are blacked out and browned using tooth enamels in layers to produce a mottled look.
Contact lenses
Lenses should be yellow to light orange tinted with red or black fringes around the circumference of the lens. This lens requirement may be waived at the discretion of the LMO or GML if the person is unable to wear contacts for health reasons.
Lightsabre
The lightsabre does not have to be the Master Replica brand but MR brands are easier to find. A resin copy or metal replica will do provided it has the same scale, quality, and is identical to the screen-used version.
A Darth Maul costume SHOULD have:
Earring
A small, silver, ball-stud earring is worn in the upper part of the left ear. Magnetic ball-studs are acceptable if piercing is not an option.
Hooded robe
The hood, yoke, and sleeves are made of black wool or an equivalent fabric. The body of the robe can be of black silk, linen, cotton or a comparable fabric in weave, weight and appearance. The hood is large and falls down the back without coming to a point. Belled sleeves end at the elbows. In front, the yoke angles down from the shoulders, coming to a point at the bottom of the sternum. The robe’s body is pleated in a sunray pattern (ie the pleats become narrower at the top than the bottom), and falls to within 1" of the floor. The pleats are ironed, not sewn in place.
A Darth Maul costume MAY have:
Electrobinoculars
These need to match those used onscreen.
Wrist commlink / control bracelet
This should match the screen-used prop.
